Am Montag, den 22. Oktober hält Prof. Parvis Ghassem-Fachandi einen Vortrag zum Thema "Erotic Conflict and Foreigner Incorporation"

22.10.2018 um 18:00 Uhr

Prof. Dr. Parvis Ghassem-Fachandi (Rutgers University, USA and ZiF Bielefeld)

Erotic Conflict and Foreigner Incorporation: Encounters between Germans and Syrian Refugees

Throughout Europe, the incorporation of refugees and migrants has become a central issue as societies adjust from several centuries of emigration to destinations for immigration. This study explores a concept of thick incorporation, which entails not shared rights or values but mutual belonging. In 2015, some 1.1 million refugees and migrants, including some 298,000 Syrian asylum seekers, entered Germany, the preferred destination within Europe. Syrian refugees who entered at that time experience incorporation in everyday encounters with Germans in which erotic conflict arises. How does communication unfold and how are projections modified in these encounters? Long-term Integration rests on facilitating a sense of mutual belonging, which is unlikely without the modification of projections and opportunities for encounters in which refugees feel desired.
