Die Amerikas: Forschungskolloquium zu den Amerikas aus kulturwissenschaftlicher Sicht

Am Donnerstag, den 23. Juni 2016 hält Sascha Gora einen Vortrag über Beavers, Berries and Bannock: The Presence and Absence of Indigenous Cuisine in Canada.

23.06.2016 um 18:00 Uhr

Sascha Gora, M.S. (LMU München)

Beavers, Berries and Bannock: The Presence and Absence of Indigenous Cuisine in Canada

How is place imagined through food? In light of the New Nordic food movement, which champions local and seasonal ingredients while expanding on what is considered edible, how does contemporary cuisine in Canada imagine and represent First Nations’ food cultures? How is Canada imagined through food and what role do Indigenous cultures play in this imagining? Structured as a tasting menu inspired by the choreography of a meal at Copenhagen’s Noma, Sasha Gora’s talk gives small tastes of topics such as the history and presence of Native cuisine across Canada, food and cultural sovereignty, and the shifting hierarchies of cuisine.

Sasha Gora is a doctoral candidate at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society, Munich.
