David MacDougall has discussed the concept of social aesthetics in the field of social theory and has applied the same concept in his documentary films on schools in India. The theoretical question is how meaning is inscribed in visual culture and how ideas are communicated visually. The filmmaker´s task is to select images and to arrange them in a narrative in order to address the viewers' mind and senses. This relates to central questions of Visual Anthropology and the Anthropology of the Senses.
